My Approach to Therapy

Healing rooted in trust, presence, and curiosity.

Therapy isn't something I do to you. It's something we build together. My approach is evidence-based, deeply human, and always guided by what matters most to you.

You are the expert on your own life.

My role isn't to fix you. It's to walk alongside you with presence, expertise, and genuine care as you reconnect with your own wisdom and resilience.

Healing happens in safe relationships.

The therapeutic relationship itself is healing. Safety, trust, and genuine connection aren't just conditions for therapy. They are the therapy.

Change is possible, at your pace.

Growth doesn't follow a timeline. Whether you need slow, careful work or are ready to move fast, we honor where you are and what you're ready for.

Core Framework

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is the foundation of my clinical work. It's one of the most well-researched therapeutic approaches, and its power lies in a simple but profound insight: your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are deeply interconnected, and changing any one of them can shift the others.

In our work together, CBT helps you notice patterns you may not have seen before, challenge thoughts that are keeping you stuck, and practice new ways of responding to yourself and the world.

  • Identify unhelpful thought patterns

Recognize automatic thoughts and cognitive distortions that amplify distress.

  • Reframe and challenge beliefs

Replace rigid or painful thinking with more flexible, balanced perspectives.

  • Build new behavioral patterns

Practice concrete skills between sessions that reinforce lasting change.

Motivational Interviewing

Building your own motivation for change.

Change is hard, and often the biggest barrier isn't knowing what to do, but feeling ready to do it. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, person-centered approach that helps you explore and resolve ambivalence, strengthen your own reasons for change, and build confidence in your ability to move forward.

Rather than telling you what to do, MI draws out your values, your vision for your life, and your own language for change. I especially use this approach in my work with substance use and recovery, where ambivalence is a natural and important part of the process.

  • Explore ambivalence without judgment

Understand both sides of your relationship with change and what's keeping you where you are.

  • Clarify your own values and vision

Connect change to what matters most to you, not to external pressure.

  • Strengthen self-efficacy

Build real confidence in your capacity to make and sustain meaningful change.

Trauma-Informed Care

Safety first, always.

Trauma-informed care isn't a separate technique. It's a lens that shapes everything we do together. It means I understand that past experiences of harm, loss, or overwhelming stress can deeply shape how you feel in your body, how you relate to others, and how safe the world feels to you.

Every aspect of our work together is designed with your sense of safety, choice, and control in mind. We move only as fast as you feel ready, and I will never push you to go somewhere before you're ready to go there.

  • Safety as a foundation

Physical, emotional, and relational safety are the first building blocks of any therapeutic work.

  • Transparency and trust

I share my thinking, explain my approach, and invite your feedback at every stage.

  • Your choices, always

You have full agency in how we work, what we explore, and how quickly we move.

What I Believe

The values that guide every session.

Presence Over Performance

Therapy isn't about saying the right things. It's about being real, and I show up fully, without a script, to meet you where you are.

Compassion Without Condition

You don't have to earn care or be “doing well enough” to deserve support. Warmth and acceptance are unconditional here.

Evidence-Based Practice

I stay current with research and use techniques that have demonstrated results, while always adapting them to fit your unique needs.

What to Expect

How our work unfolds.

Every therapeutic journey is different, but here's a general sense of how sessions typically progress over time.

01. Free Consultation (15 min)

A low-pressure call to talk about what's going on, answer your questions, and see whether we're a good fit. No commitment required.

02. First Session: Getting to Know You

We explore your history, what brought you here, and what you're hoping to work toward. There's no pressure to share more than you're ready to.

03. Building the Work Together

We develop a shared understanding of your patterns, your goals, and the tools and insights most useful for your growth.

04. Deepening & Practicing Change

As trust builds, we go deeper, processing difficult experiences, challenging stuck patterns, and practicing new ways of being.

05. Integration & Looking Forward

We consolidate what you've learned, celebrate your growth, and, when the time is right, prepare for a meaningful close.

“I believe growth happens when clients feel safe enough to be honest, vulnerable, and curious about themselves.”

In Every Session

Four pillars that shape how we work.

No matter what brings you to therapy, these commitments are constant, the foundation beneath every conversation we have.

  • Collaboration

Therapy is a partnership. Your insights guide the work as much as my expertise does.

  • Respect for Your Pace

We go as fast or as slow as you need. There's no timeline you have to meet.

  • Non-Judgment

This is a space where all of you is welcome, the messy parts, the uncertain parts, all of it.

  • Curiosity Over Prescription

We explore together with curiosity, not with an agenda about who you should become.
